I used it on 971f which is much denser than 987f, but i have not used it yet. The only problem with said stores is they follow fashion and some of the new fabric is not to my taste to put it mildly I was recently at hobby lobby and saw that coats and clarks thread is on clearance and there is a new rack for sewology thread
